The EAGLE project is part of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) funded by the European Commission and is entitled "Development and demonstration of a dynamic, web-based, renewable energy rating platform".
The objective of the EAGLE project is to enable the SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) members to increase their market penetration in the design, manufacture and installation of renewable energy technologies. Therefore an intelligent web-based renewable energy platform is created. To achieve the objective, easy to to-understand, objective and accurate information on renewable energy systems that are installed on buildings or apartments, are provided. This information includes also return on investment of individual installations. In addition information- and educational campaigns about the benefits of renewable energy for homeowners and other end users (e.g. Administrations, private companies, etc.) are enabled.
The focus of the IPFs activities is automatically derive 3D elevation data from aerial images and extract suitable roof areas that are relevant for solar power systems.
The sample picture shows automatically extracted roof surfaces, which were derived from the 3D laser scanner data of a flight of the project partner Bluesky International Limited in Leicester / England. The coloring of the roof surfaces indicates the degree of shading in December to (dark orange: almost no shading, dark violet: strong shading).
